Description

The Beolab 90: Your own music like you've never heard it before

The reason

Because of Bang & Olufsen's 90th anniversary, the sound engineers, led by Tonmeister Geoff Martin, were for once given free rein to design the best loudspeaker ever. The challenge was to make this speaker produce the best possible sound in every situation and room, as it was recorded in the studio.

The result

It has resulted in the arrival of the Beolab 90: the loudspeaker of the future.

The Beolab 90 took three years to develop. During that period, we listened extensively to the best speakers that were available on the market at that time.

The characteristics

Characteristic of the Beolab 90 is that the best features of competing speakers have been combined in this sound system.

The Beolab 90 can adapt to, for example, the sound of a movie, the voice of a newsreader or as a background speaker at a party. In addition, this speaker can ensure that unwanted resonance is avoided in any room where the Beolab 90 is installed. A very sensitive microphone is used during installation.

The way in which the Beolab 90 can adapt to any room, prevent resonance and adopt different speaker characteristics, is based on three technologies:

Active Room Control ensures the optimal sound experience through a technical analysis of the room in which the Beolab is located, including furniture, walls and listening positions.

Beam Width Control is a technology that can specifically regulate the width at which the treble is output. This way you can output the high tones from the Beolab 90 at 90, 180 and 360 degrees respectively.

With Beam Direction Control you can control the direction of the treble and thus optimize every active listening position.

Design

With 18 premium speakers and 8200 (!) Watts per speaker and a weight of 137 kg each, it was also a challenge to realize a timeless design for the Beolab 90. Under the leadership of product designer André Poulheim, a design was chosen based on a four-point cloth, which gives the Beolab a different appearance in every position.

Appearance

You can customize the Beolab 90 to your own taste. You have many choices not only in terms of sound with the technologies mentioned above, but also appearance.

This way you can choose the colors of the canvas, the frame and the wood yourself.

Expert reviews

The BeoLab 90 has been reviewed by several reviewers. Their findings and recommendations can be found on the Bang & Olufsen website.

Design

Meet sound

With 18 premium speakers and 8200 (!) Watts per speaker and a weight of 137 kg each, it was also a challenge for the BeoLab 90 to achieve a timeless design. Under the leadership of product designer André Poulheim, a design point canvas was chosen based on four designs, giving the BeoLab a different appearance in each stand.

  • Active room control

Ensures an optimal sound experience through a technical analysis of the room in which the BeoLab is located, including furniture, walls and listening positions.

  • Checking the beam width

Is a technology that can specifically control the width at which the treble is reproduced. This way you can output the high tones from the BeoLab 90 at 90, 180 and 360 degrees respectively.

  • Checking the beam direction

Beam Direction Control lets you adjust the treble direction to optimize any active listening position.
